Publishing timestamp: 2024-02-08 16:49:31

Summary

Hawaiian Airlines is the first major U.S. airline to offer complimentary Wi-Fi via SpaceX's Starlink onboard commercial flights. The CEO of Hawaiian Airlines believes this will set a new standard for connectivity on airplanes. Other airlines, such as JetBlue Airways and Delta Air Lines, have also been offering free Wi-Fi onboard. Hawaiian Airlines has signed an agreement with SpaceX to utilize the Starlink network, and they plan to install Starlink terminals on 18 of their A321 jets and 24 of their A330 aircraft. The installation was delayed due to the need for more Starlink satellites and certification from the Federal Aviation Administration. SpaceX has also announced Starlink inflight Wi-Fi deals with other airlines, including airBaltic, Zipair, and Qatar Airways. This announcement comes shortly after Hawaiian Airlines struck a deal to be acquired by Alaska Airlines.
